Aim: to get to know each other (group cohesion, building trust)

11:00 Presentation of the Deaf Enterprise Curriculum
and explantion of the rationale behind its current form and content (Lynne; Outi & Ole)

14:00 Assignment 1: Making Yourself Heard

  • By: Ninja Kors
  • Aim & Method: To enable the trainers to build the methods for delivering the curriculum, keeping in mind their own target groups
  • Trainers are presented with the contents of a particular topic and challenged to find the most suitable working format and/or develop activities to deliver it to the target group with whom they will be working.
  • The Assignment is presented by Ninja, the trainers are then required to work in small groups, coached by the partners from their countries.

  • Aim & Method: The outcomes of the case studies are presented and discussed, providing an opportunity to learn from the other groups/countries. The outcomes contribute to the curriculum.

The Journey: You as a role model

  • Aim: to prepare trainers to assume the role of coach (rather than teacher) and view their own development as a starting point for helping others
  • Method: The Journey (from Frank Heckman based on Flow Theory)

  • Aim & Method: Discussion of different formats for teaching/coaching.

09:00  Group dynamics & cohesion

  • Aim & Method: Working with a group always, in any setting with any group, follows a certain pattern. It helps to be aware of this process if you want your group to work together smoothly and if you want to be able to steer things in a certain direction. Explanation of this dynamic and working on devising strategies for solving problems.

11:00  Keeping the group together: techniques and exercises

  • By Elten Kiene

Examples of techniques and exercises to build and maintain social cohesion as well as establish trust between coach and participants. Trainers are invited to present their own examples of problematic situations they encountered (in any setting, doesn’t need to be teaching) and how they addressed this, didn’t address this, or maybe should have addressed this.

14:00  Filming Introductions and Invitations

  • On the DE website and Facebook page, we will post short videos of the Deaf trainers:
    1. an Introduction: Hi, we are the trainers of the DE workshop, this is who we are, and
    2. an Invitation to the Workshop: what, where, for whom, and: how to register? To be discussed: can anyone participate? Or: do we add some requirements, for instance, good sign language skills? 18+?  ..... ?
