Objective

Participants discuss do's and don'ts of job interviews and use role-play to practice.

Job descriptions to be used for the interviews

If possible: invite interpreter(s) and/or 'employer(s)'

Content

The trainer(s) lead a discussion about job interviews:

  • What to expect?
  • When to disclose?
  • Who books the interpreter?
  • Working with the interpreter
  • What happens when things go wrong?

The discussion should include clothing and seating positions (with interpreter), how/when to shake hands, eye gaze, appropriate responses etc.

Mock interviews/role play:

Dependent upon numbers – group may split into 2: one ‘employer’, one interviewee, one interpreter.

Interviewees – should prepare with the interpreter before the interview.

Mock interviews

The participants watch all the interviews – using this as a learning experience, noticing good practice etc.

Peer and employer feedback.
